Tornado Warning??!!

Tornado warning? What is that? I have never had one of those in my life. All I had practiced when I was young were earthquakes. You remember those drills in elementary and Jr. High when you had to take cover under your desk. I had no idea what to do when I heard these sirens sounding. At first I thought it was my TV making weird noises. But no, I turned off my TV and the sound was still there. That was on Friday.
Jake was at his research job that day and called me to ask if I was in the basement. I thought that was so weird and asked why? He started laughing and said that there was a tornado warning and I should get downstairs. But I had been watching the news and they didn't sound too concerned about our county. So I stayed upstairs and just waited it out.

Well, come Saturday the tornado warnings were up again. The sirens were going off and this time when we turned on the news they kept saying that if you are in Milwaukee county that you should seek shelter. They sounded so much more concerned than the day before. So we looked outside and the sky was pitch black. We didn't even hesitate. We got some food and a bag ready for Nolan and headed downstairs with our great neighbors the Tensmeyer's. They were so prepared. They had this big black bag with all the essentials for an emergency. We were not prepared at all.
Dan started opening the bag and busted out this radio. How smart! We were able to listen to the news and know when it was safe to go back upstairs.
Jake and I decided that we need to become more prepared for natural disasters like tornadoes. We did have a good time through the whole thing. We kind of went a little picture crazy. What do you do when you are stuck in the basement for an hour. The top picture we took just because I thought it could have been our last family photo if anything really bad were to happen. What a sweet picture right? Nolan picking his nose. A look to remember. I love that kid!
Anyway, I thought it was a fun adventure experiencing a tornado warning. It is very thrilling. You tend to toy with the idea of should we go downstairs or should we stay up? Better safe than sorry I always say!
